All Party Parliamentary Group to End Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking

The All-Party Parliamentary Group to End Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking (APPG) was launched in 2018 by 40 Senators and Members of Parliament from across all political parties. Uniquely, the APPG has been jointly led by four co-chairs from the Liberal, Conservative, Bloc Québécois and Independent Senators Group. One of the APPG’s biggest achievements has been securing the recognition of February 22 as National Human Trafficking Awareness Day.

The APPG efforts in 2023–2024 to raise awareness about modern slavery and human trafficking and create change included:

  • Briefing on Lessons from Quebec in the Fight Against Sex Trafficking – May 2023
  • Meeting with UN Special Rapporteur on Modern Slavery – August 2023
  • Assisting in Securing Human Trafficking Conviction – Fall 2023
  • Recognition of National Human Trafficking Awareness Day on February 22, 2024
  • Meeting with Survivor Leaders of Human Trafficking – February 2024
  • Briefing on Canadian Demand for Online Child Exploitation in Philippines – April 2024

IJHR Clinic Report

The All-Party Parliamentary Group to End Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking’s academic partner, the International Justice & Human Rights Clinic at Allard Law School (UBC), is pleased to share its latest report,CORE Principles, “Good Faith” Recommendations for the Canadian Ombudsperson for Responsible Enterprise (available in English only). Director Nicole A. Barrett highlighted some of the report’s key findings at the APPG AGM in May.
