Indigenous Focus
Land Acknowledgement
The Rotary Action Group Against Slavery in Canada acknowledges that we are on the traditional territories of Indigenous Peoples, who have stewarded this land, now called Canada, for generations. We honour their enduring connection to the land, water, and community. We recognize that the land we are on carries the stories of these Nations and the complex history of displacement and resilience. We also acknowledge that Indigenous Peoples have been affected by horrendous injustices that no person should ever experience, including human trafficking and slavery.
We pay our respects to the Elders past, present, and emerging, and extend that respect to all Indigenous people across Canada. We are committed to building a more inclusive and respectful relationship with Indigenous communities and to understanding and honouring these lands’ rich cultural heritage.
By acknowledging the historical and ongoing impacts of colonization, we hope to foster an environment of learning, growth, and healing. As Rotarians, we pledge to continue our efforts to support Indigenous sovereignty and to work in solidarity with Indigenous peoples in the pursuit of justice and reconciliation. We are also committed to including Indigenous Peoples in the decisions and work of RAGAS in Canada for the betterment of all Canadians, both for today and the future.
